Full and Upfront Cost Disclosure for Uncontested and Contested Divorces

Getting divorced is a process that takes time, commitment, patience, and . . . money. While it is not a secret that divorce attorneys charge legal fees, many people find it surprisingly difficult to learn just how much it will cost them to complete their divorce. At Kraayeveld Family Law, we offer flat fee options for contested and uncontested divorces. These are transparent fees that allow you to plan ahead for the costs of your divorce without having to worry about “surprise” legal bills. When you retain our services on a flat-fee basis, you will know exactly how much you will pay upfront, and you won’t have to wonder if each call or email is adding to the cost of your divorce. For additional information or to discuss your options, contact a Grand Rapids flat fee divorce lawyer at our firm today.

Flat Fees for Uncontested Divorces

If your divorce is uncontested – meaning that you and your spouse agree regarding financial support (alimony), child custody and visitation, and how to divide your assets – we, as your divorce attorney, can handle your entire case for one flat fee.

Our flat fee for uncontested divorces includes:

  • A confidential, one-on-one attorney consultation
  • Preparation of all forms necessary to complete your uncontested divorce
  • Our appearance in court to finalize your divorce

These services are designed to ensure that you are making informed decisions about the terms of your divorce, that you have attorney-prepared documents in compliance with Michigan law, and that you will receive a final divorce judgment that allows you to move on with your life.

Flat Fees for Contested Divorces

We offer flat-fee services for contested divorces as well. If you and your spouse need help to reach an agreement over the terms of your divorce – whether in the form of attorney-led negotiations, mediation or courtroom litigation – then your divorce is considered “contested.”

For contested divorces, we custom-tailor our flat fees to the unique circumstances of each client’s divorce. This includes a consideration of factors such as the amount of hostility between the parties, the size of the marital estate, whether there are children involved, and who is representing the other spouse.

We then charge flat fees in four-month blocks:

  • Filing and Discovery stage when some cases may settle
  • Settlement stage
  • Trial preparation and possible trial attendance

Our flat fees for contested divorces include full-service legal representation. You can call when you want to, and we will do everything necessary to aggressively pursue a favorable result. We will take your divorce to trial if necessary; but, if we can negotiate a desirable settlement relatively quickly, you will not have to pay anything beyond the initial four months.

To be clear, our flat fees are not intended as discounted rates. Rather, we offer flat fees as a way to help our clients manage the costs of divorce. As our client, we want you to feel confident in all aspects of the outcome of your divorce, and this includes knowing how much you can expect to pay.
